Cardiac Diagnostic Testing

Cardiac Diagnostic Testing

Cardiac diagnostic tests are the commonly used tests to diagnose any heart-related issues. These tests help detect cardiac conditions like arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, valve problems, and even structural abnormalities. The types of tests used depend on the type and severity of the condition.

Some of these tests include an echocardiogram, electrocardiogram (ECG), stress test, MUGA scan, Arterial and venous ultrasound studies, carotid duplex scanning, and more. At Vanguard, we use advanced technology and modern methods to accurately diagnose heart conditions quickly and effectively.

Cardiac Diagnostic Testing at Vanguard Medical Group

At Vanguard, our experienced team of doctors and technicians is dedicated to helping you stay healthy. Heart health is one of the most important elements of overall wellness, so we strive to provide the most thorough and accurate testing for our patients.

Our state-of-the-art technology and modern methods of cardiac diagnostic testing make it easier than ever to diagnose heart-related issues quickly and effectively. Below are the cardiac tests our clinic provides:

Electrocardiogram Test

An ECG (Electrocardiogram) provides a comprehensive snapshot of your heart health by monitoring your heart’s electrical signals. Through the application of small adhesive dots and wires onto various points around your chest, arms, and legs — which are then connected to the ECG machine – this device can measure these pulses before printing out results for further examination.

At vanguard, we offer our patients an electrocardiogram test to diagnose the specific problem, mostly before the surgery.

Stress Echocardiography

A stress echocardiogram or echocardiography is a test done to assess how well the heart works under stress. The “stress” can be triggered by either exercise on a treadmill or a medicine called dobutamine. This heart stress test is done to detect abnormalities in the heart’s structure and functioning that are not detected during a regular echocardiogram.

Nuclear Cardiac Stress Test

The nuclear stress test measures blood flow in the heart under stressed conditions. During this test, a small amount of radioactive material is injected into the bloodstream and monitored with a special camera. This test helps to identify blockages in the arteries and determine if any heart damage has occurred due to lack of blood flow.

Cardiac Exercise Stress Testing

Cardiac exercise stress testing is a test done to determine how well your heart functions during physical activity. During the test, you will be asked to walk on a treadmill or exercise bike for a certain amount of time. The speed and incline will be increased periodically during the test to simulate physical activity and monitor your heart’s response.

MUGA Gated Blood Pool Scanning

MUGA (Multiple Gated Blood Pool Scanning) is a diagnostic imaging test commonly used to evaluate the heart’s overall functioning. During this test, a small amount of radioactive material is injected into the bloodstream, which is then monitored with a special camera to measure the heart’s pumping efficiency. Cardiac gated blood pool scan helps detect abnormalities in the heart’s structure, such as valve problems and irregular rhythms.

Arterial and Venous Ultrasound Studies

Arterial and venous ultrasound studies diagnose blockages in the arteries and veins. During this test, an ultrasonic probe creates images of the blood flow through your body. This test is especially useful for diagnosing blockages that cannot be seen on other imaging tests. In addition, arterial ultrasound studies help detect blockages in the arteries that may lead to a stroke or other serious medical conditions.

Carotid Duplex Scanning

Carotid duplex ultrasound checks for blockages in the carotid arteries that could cause a stroke. At Vanguard, our surgeons use carotid ultrasound to detect narrowing or stenosis of the carotid artery, substantially increasing the risk of stroke.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening

An abdominal aortic aneurysm ultrasound is used to check for weakened areas in the large blood vessels in the abdomen. This test is done to detect aneurysms, which are bulges in the wall of a blood vessel that can cause serious health complications if left untreated. After that, abdominal aortic aneurysm treatment can be implemented if necessary.

Peripheral Angiography

Peripheral angiography is a diagnostic imaging test used to identify blockages in the arteries and veins. During this procedure, a special dye is injected into the peripheral vessels and monitored with an X-ray. It helps doctors to know if a surgical procedure is needed to open blocked arteries.

Treatment for Varicose and Spider Veins

In Vanguard, doctors use detailed imaging tests to diagnose varicose veins, including ultrasound and other tests accurately. Our qualified vascular specialists work with radiologists, vascular surgeons, and other care providers Cardiac Diagnostic Testing.

Our vascular specialists have expertise in varicose and spider vein treatment using options like liquid and foam sclerotherapy, saphenous vein ablation, laser surgery, endo venous thermal ablation, including laser and radiofrequency treatment, vein stripping, endoscopic vein surgery, and more.

At Vanguard, we understand that a healthy heart is the foundation of good health — so make sure to visit us for your next cardiac diagnostic test! We’ll provide you with the highest quality of care to ensure your heart is in great shape.

General FAQs

An echocardiogram is used to evaluate the structure and function of your heart. It can be used to diagnose various conditions, such as heart valve problems and heart muscle abnormalities, and to assess the size of the chambers in your heart. It can also identify blockages in the arteries that may lead to a stroke or other serious medical conditions.
The best treatment for spider veins will depend on the severity of your condition and other factors. Depending on the patient’s needs, treatments range from sclerotherapy to laser surgery. Your vascular specialist can provide you with more information and suggest the best treatment for your case.
Carotid duplex scanning is used to check for blockages in the carotid arteries that could cause a stroke. It uses ultrasound waves to measure the speed and direction of blood flowing through the carotid arteries, allowing surgeons to detect narrowing or stenosis of the artery.

The three main types of stress tests are:

  1. Exercise stress tests
  2. Nuclear stress tests
  3. Echocardiograms stress test

The best test to check for heart problems depends on the condition and other factors. Some of the most common tests include

  1. Echocardiograms
  2. Coronary angiography
  3. Stress tests
  4. Coronary CT scans
